Finding Success in Documentary Film Production
With Tour of Horizon Productions' New Studios

Come hear from a panel of distinguished, award-winning documentary producers and directors for a lively discussion of how they've found success in this genre. Some 'how to' topics to be discussed include choosing your subject matter, obtaining funding and sponsor support, and getting your documentary seen.

Panelists will include:

  • Rebecca Cerese -- Producer, Director and Writer, Shelter from the Storm Productions, LLC. Rebecca has produced several documentaries, with her work regularly airing on PBS and the STARZ networks. Her latest film, "Landscapes of the Heart: The Elizabeth Spencer Story" is currently screening at film festivals and securing distribution (elizabethspencerdocumentary.org).
     
  • Dr. Steven Channing -- President, Video Dialog Inc. (www.videodialog.com). Historian, author, and EMMY Award-winning filmmaker, Steve is currently wrapping production on "Passing the Torch: Bill Friday, Terry Sanford and North Carolina's Greatest Generation" and in production on "Remarkable Journey: The Voices of North Carolina South Asian Indian Americans" for statewide and national PBS broadcast.  Steve also is co-founder of the Southern Documentary Fund (southerndocumentaryfund.org).
     
  • David Dalton and Theresa Dalton --  Managing Partners, BlueWater Media, LLC(www.bluewatermedia.biz). David and Theresa's BlueWater Media agency produces original television programming for regional and national cable networks and public television stations. Credits include “Maximum Marine”, “American Boater” and “Rev It Up” television series; five documentaries in the EMMY-nominated “Cruising Carolina” series for UNC-TV; and production and post-production services for the PBS series “Simple Living.”
     
  • Cynthia Hill -- North Carolina-based Documentary Filmmaker. An acclaimed producer and director focusing on Southern topics and issues, Cynthia's documentary film credits include "Private Violence", "Tobacco Money Feeds My Family", "The Guestworker", and "February One." All her work has shown on public television. Cynthia's latest project is the PBS series "A Chef's Life" (www.achefslifeseries.com). She is co-founder with Dr. Steven Channing of the Southern Documentary Fund.
     
  • Scott Pearson -- Owner, Influence Music Publishing (influence-music.com). Scott has produced the soundtracks for over 200 network television shows, movies and documentaries. Credits include four seasons of TLC's "Jon & Kate Plus Eight" and seven seasons of "19 Kids and Counting" reality program series. Recently Scott scored the documentaries "The Editor and The Dragon: Horace Carter Fights The Klan" narrated by Morgan Freeman, and "Landscapes of the Heart: The Elizabeth Spencer Story" produced by Rebecca Cerese.

The program will begin with a screening of clips from some of the panelist’s documentaries followed by discussion and Q&A. Preceding the program you can tour Horizon Productions’ new facility and socialize with fellow production professionals.
