The 27th Midsouth Emmy Awards were held on January 26, 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
Horizon’s Donna Mitchell and Tim Finkbiner, along with their spouses, attended to support the five Emmy nominations for our historical documentary, Birth of a Colony. They then got to walk on stage to accept the award for:
Birth of a Colony: North Carolina, Scott Davis, Tim Finkbiner, Donna Mitchell, UNC-TV/Horizon Productions
The five categories in which the program was nominated, show the incredible breadth of talent and dedication behind it. By winning the Documentary/Historical category, all of those talents, contributions, and hours of hard work were recognized.
As Tim fielded questions back at work on Monday morning, he told the Horizon team, “this Emmy for Documentary really reflects the combined work of people at Horizon, UNC-TV, and the NC Department of Cultural Resources. The win is an honor for the show itself, and for everyone’s help in creating it.”
Both Donna and Tim have been handling the many congratulatory phone calls and emails from people across the area.
“I was texting up to the award announcement, then after Horizon’s Birth of a Colony was announced the winner, the texts starting flying back to me with congrats. We have been blown away by the support during production and now that we have moved to distribution.” – Donna shared via email before her flight back to NC.
